LoTi Framework.
E-Teaching and E-Learning Reference Levels.

The Virtual Era, comes with a specific demand to the new generation of teachers and students. This demand is related to the technological competence. The use of virtual environments becomes a “must” to fulfill successfully the challenges of being well informed and prepared to perform different tasks faster, easier and more productively.
The LoTi Framework was created to measure the levels of domain in the use of the virtual technology in the instruction sphere. In the case of education, this framework measures the level of engagement and expertise of teachers and students when using technological tools in the teaching and learning process. In the case of students, it is related to instruction and formation, and in the case of teachers is deals with designing innovative ways to teach and also designing assessing tools using virtual environments.

The following chart, gives clear and simple information about every one of the levels of LoTi Framework.

LoTi Levels Descriptions

Level

Descriptions

Nonuse
The teacher does not implement technology in his or her corresponding lessons. The technology that is used is basic or non existent as worksheets, notebooks and chalkboards. This can be because of the teacher’s decision or it can be because of lack of time.
1
Awareness
The teacher uses technology as an “extra”. He or she has access to a few technological tools but as a complement or usually outside the classroom. This has no relevance on the student or teacher learning and teaching process. It is used as a complement that has no effect nor place on the curriculum.
2
Exploration
The teacher uses some technological programs as extension activities. They do not have any relevance on the curriculum but are used to engage students and make richer lessons. They include online games, tutorials and simulations.
3
Infusion
Teacher uses technological devices to develop their lessons in isolated activities or instructional events. This include data-sharing among the school or telecommunications.
4
Integration
Technology use is integrated by the teacher  in the teaching process as part of the resources used to teach lessons, as a source of  contents, that provides students a platform to develop learning experiences and to enhance problem solving skills.

SELF – EVALUATION

Since I was assigned to work in a Language Laboratory, that has 9 computers, access to the Internet, a TV screen, small library and other pedagogical resources, and knowing that they are facing a Virtual Era which two mains demands are to be competent in the use of virtual environment and a second language domain, one of my biggest concerns was how to take advantage of the technological resources I have as a teacher to improve my teaching and to make the students benefit from that.

I went from the Awareness level to the Exploration level, thanks to this current course I am taking.

PERSPECTIVES AND EXPECTATIONS

My perspectives and expectation from now in a year is that I can be in the Integration Stage. I already started to experiment on designing different instruments to engage my students in the use of virtual environment in their language learning process, to promote their E-Learning.

This 2019 is going to be the year in which my efforts will be focus in two personal process. First, on gaining experience in the use of virtual environment and in finding websites and virtual tool suitable for my students in every level. Second on beginning the design of my own virtual system that support my
E-teaching.
