          It is a contemporary learning resource tendency based on the use of internet. The learner can be taught, trained and learn about almost any topic. To be specific, it is an online software tool that provides students with controlled learning materials specific to the course they want to take online.

          This tool gives support to learners with a wide range specific contents. The contents can be organized by blocks, modules or weeks, depending on the course or program. It can personalize the learning experience for learners and at the same time can impact learners massively due the use of internet and the fact that it can be used at any time and at any location, because the only requirement is the access to internet.

          Modules or courses work with learners avoiding long pages and making the students to keep engage and enthusiastic along the course. The materials include videos, audios, images, and links of other sites available to view 24/7.

          The students´ progress is monitored by setting mild stones and progress short tests in the program. It also provides materials in an accessible format and gives the students another sources of materials so they can go and find further information if they want or need it.

          Also, it is not a passive learning experience but it is interactive and learner generated contents. The students can work in three different forms: private, collaborative or shared experiences. Collaborative work can be done using a Wiki tool and it is recorded, so it is possible to see students´ participation.

          Assessment of students using these tools can be real world, efficient and authentic. Short tests have a variety of formats, offering instant feedback and scoring to students. These short tests can be re-taken to improve and be sure about their own learning and performance.

          Virtual Learning is in fact a valuable resource to let the learners improve their domain of any content. Its nature makes it to be a perfect support for second language learners.

  1. Hello Pata, your summary is an accurate observation of what VLE offers to teachers and students. I hope we all had the same socio-economical conditions to use technology regularly in classes. Although this availability of conditions is diverse all around the country, we teachers can make the difference and start using VLE on our daily basis with students. I think students like and use technology a lot but they miss out how to use it constructively.

  2. Patricia, when you come to think of the purpose of education, one starts to think of learning at any time the student wants to. VLEs are valuable ways to ignite authentic and autonomous learning. We are simply playing in the same ground most students of ours play; knowing how they learn can help us design better tasks that can lead to "private, collaborative or shared experiences."
