What I have learned...
Introduction.
The first session of this course three different tools were given to us to begin our trainning in Virtual Learning: Diigo, Mindmup and Blogger.
As it is known, nowadays we live in a virtual world. The most updated information, the most important resources, options and opportunities can be found in the web. This fact, was analized by many different professionals in different fields and by different organizations around the worls. An article published by the National Education Association in 2010, pointed out that it is imperative to to promote and develop what it is called Global Competence. This type of competence includes four different components. This short reflection is going to focus on two of them and how Virtual Learning can be a great ally to develop Global Competence in our students, specifically in these two components.
Personal Reflection.
As the mind map above shows, the proficiency in a foreign language and the development of competitive skills are part of Global Competence. Virtual Learning can help the teachers to promote and the students to achieve these two components of Global Competecnce.
In the case of Diigo, this virtual tool allows the teacher and the students to have communication in a collaborative virtual environment in which it is possible for them to share different type of inforamtion in different formats , such as group bookmarks, sticky notes and forums, for mentioning some of them.
Mindmup is a virtual resource that in collaboration with other plataforms makes possible to create and present mind maps with different layouts about any topic the teacher or students want to work about. Talking about Blogger as a virtual resource it is possible to say that it can connect people in the space of a blogg to share ideas, opinions, information, about any topic they want.
The combination of these three virtual tools multiply the opportunities of teachers to promote and the students to achieve the two mentioned components of Global Competence.
Conclusion
Virtual Learning and its different tools can be great allies to both, the teacher and the students in one of the most important goals of education nowadays, which is to achieve Global Competence. By promoting the using of Virtual Learning, both the teacher and the students can benefit in their formation of the four components of Global Competence.

Hello Pata, I agree with you. I also think that students must get to know and use VLE tools. Indeed, one of the most important skills learners should acquire is virtual tools for educational purposes. Believe or not, some students don't even know how to send an e-mail. So that, teachers should try to fill those gaps students have in terms of technology use and make students use their mobile devices efficiently and purposefully.
ReplyDeleteWow! Patricia, it is indeed a very good approach of yours linking your new knowledge with the importance of developing our global competence, too. Now you have another source or tool to continue working on this with your students.
ReplyDeleteGreat!
